Recover from a negative feedback like a pro

When you deliver a freelancing project, your client might like or dislike the work and write feedback accordingly.

These feedback or reviews are vital in getting more work. Every client you would approach in future would check these feedbacks before awarding you the project.

If you get negative feedback in your profile, it could be the sole reason for you being rejected in upcoming projects.

Below are some tips to recover if you happen to receive a bad feedback:

Check Authenticity

Read the feedback ten times and try figuring out if it is true or not. You are the only person to know if the feedback is actually an honest one or something else. If you found something you missed from your side, fix it.

After a negative feedback you can approach your client and offer to revise and fix the one thing that your client didn’t like. Remember this ‘negative feedbacks are often from the ones who truly wants you to improve’. And they actually work better than a positive feedback in terms of improvements.

Convert it in a testimonial

Take it as an opportunity. Until you approach the client and ask about the review, you would not be able to figure out exactly what went wrong.

Once you know why your client was unhappy, fix it. Give an honest effort to make your client happy and satisfied. You can also offer some discount to the client in upcoming work.

Clients are unpredictable and most of them will praise you even for the average work. So approach them and try to resolve the issue he was facing in your work. When you fix it client would be happy. And god knows he might be happy enough to write you a testimonial. The negative feedback can’t be removed from your profile but imagine how would a good testimonial work from the same client.

Move on

Sometimes, it is difficult to reach an unhappy client to talk about the negative feedback. Then there is only one thing you can do, Move on.

Get more work, get more feedbacks, ofcourse the good ones. Once you get enough feedbacks, the old ones would be old enough not to appear on the page. This is the time when you actually recovered from the negative feedback.

If you can’t reach the client to fix the negative, it is better to forget and move on.
