Many people check out the image results of their search queries and if your image comes in the results, high chances are you will get the visitor on your page.

Optimising images for seo

But the images you add should be relevant and should make sense. They must emphasize the title and subject of your post. Their relevance in your post makes them more appealing and you also get a chance to optimize your page by doing SEO in images.

Follow these guidelines to optimize images for SEO

  1. Use them in OpenGraph tags and Twitter\Facebook cards, it will add the images in your social shares.
  2. Choose the correct file name. Books-make-you-knowledgable.jpg gives you better visibility than 123.jpg or abc.jpg.
  3. The size of an image plays a vital role in the load time of your page. Lower the image size better the load time hence better in search results.
  4. Add a good caption text for your image and it should be relevant to the text of the actual post.
  5. Add alt text in every image. Sometimes images don’t load in some firewall settings, so adding an alt tag makes sure that the info is not missed if the image doesn’t appear. Add related keywords and search strings that justify the title of your post, it makes them more SEO friendly.

Make SEO friendly URLs

Your URL is the first thing search engine crawlers and spiders will find. It has to be SEO optimized for better search engine results.

Follow these simple rules while creating URLs:

  1. Static URLs like your-domain-name/blog/web/title-of-your-post is better for SEO than your-domain-name/794#
  2. Hyphens are recommended to use to separate words. Underscore makes search engine to read all words as one single word. For example, title_of_your_post will be titleofyourpost for search engines and it won’t make any sense.
  3. Overuse of hyphens is also bad as it would make your URL spammy for search engines.
  4. Use keywords in your URLs but don’t overdo them.
  5. Create XML sitemaps. A sitemap is a list of all URLs which you submit to search engines. It should not contain duplicates.

These techniques are to be used while optimizing your websites for SEO. The 4 methods we discussed by now make a big difference in SEO. These were the techniques that give you maximum results.
