Our company is an e-commerce company & lifestyle brand in the automotive industry, specializing in shock absorbers, struts, and other suspension system parts. We are looking for a hard-working, organized, data-loving freelancer to join our team.
This person will report to our lead software engineer and assist in the production and vetting of product catalog data. The Shock Surplus catalog currently consists of over 100,000 SKUs, and there is a plan in place to triple this number over the next 2 years. This new hire will have a key role in executing and managing this catalog growth.
The first several months of this position will entail a significant amount of data processing and manipulation in Excel, as the new hire learns our catalog and brands. This work will have immediate revenue impact for the company. Subsequent months will bring interesting catalog development tasks and a support role for internal market research projects. As the new hire learns our products, our industry, and our approach, their responsibilities and project scope will increase
Responsibilities and tasks include:
- Use Excel to produce and edit catalog data, in concert with software engineers
- Share the ownership of Shock Surplus catalog data, under the direction of lead engineer
- Work with lead engineer to constantly improve the system and tools used for organizing and producing catalog data
- Manipulate and clean manufacturer raw data and data sourced from other providers
- Research new products and lines as needed, and manage the collection of data for these products
- Work closely with lead engineer on all catalog-related data, and provide clean and reproducible tables for use in Auto Soss proprietary software
- Bring new ideas to management on catalog content, images, copy, organization, and new relevant tools
- Assist management with internal market research and econometric/industry research.
The perfect fit for this position:
- You love data. You love working with it, manipulating it, summarizing it, reporting it, and visualizing it.
- You love Excel, you are great at using it, and you want to get even better. You use lots of keyboard shortcuts. You have at least 2 years of Excel experience in a professional, collaborative environment (not counting school).
- You are extremely digitally organized, utilizing concise file names and easily navigable folder structures.
- Ideally, you have some VBA or Python experience, and use this experience to speed up your Excel processing.
- You are a great communicator: written, phone, and in-person. You do not hesitate to ask your supervisor for guidance and opinion.
- You are a Google power-user: Gmail, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Calendar. You are familiar with these Google tools, and you're stoked to join a company that leverages them.
