Problem:
Have a webform which needs input of network device details, such as Serial numbers, system MAC address, Hostname, OS version, IP address and such. This is one device per webpage , needs to be submitted and then the next device needs to be added ( Or if it exists then needs to be updated).
Most of the above required information is available in 1 or 2 commands of the device, for example in a cisco switch, a 'Show version' command will give 90% of the information.
Alternatively, these data points are also available through SNMP.
So the scenario (I'm assuming) is to write a script which would run on a Linux box, (This device is available and is already existing in the network and has access to all the devices ) gather all that information and input into a URL/webpage which has fields for all the above points. It can be done after all the device information is collected or can be done one by one.
Again above can be done by running the show version and other commands per switch or can be polled by SNMP ( or any other efficient way you think is better)
I will have the list of IP address which needs to be polled.
I can probably give you the OIDs (if using SNMP) for the information required.
