On Demand Innovation helps its clients achieve their objectives through inventive thinking. As such, we help our clients think differently about whatever situation they need to innovate around, and thus discover new ideas.
We are facilitators and have a proven technique called Systematic Inventive Thinking. As we facilitate the method in workshops, usually with around 15-20 participants will be working in small teams of 3 or 4. Each team will generate ideas throughout the day. Ideas are captured in an idea database, along with a brief description, benefits, challenges, etc. Whilst part of each team enters the idea into the idea database in words, another part of the team will be briefing the illustrator. This is done via an Illustrator's Briefing Sheet, which captures the name of the idea, the essence of the idea, and may even include a drawing or sketch of the idea as they see it (they are unlikely to be accomplished illustrators, so this is often very rough).
The objective is for the illustrator to convert the participant's description of the idea (as verbally explained by the idea generators and as described in writing on the Illustrators Briefing Sheet), into a more meaningful and more memorable sketch that conveys the essence of the idea.
It is often the case that several ideas are given to the illustrator in quick succession, for example, if 3 teams all generate an idea at roughly the same time. In this case, each team will line up, one behind the other, to brief the illustrator and submit their Illustrator Briefing Sheet. As it will be difficult to remember enough detail for a meaningful sketch, the briefing sheet is what the illustrator can rely on to develop the sketch. The output will be an A4 sheet with the name of the idea, and possibly an idea number.
At times 3 or 4 of these can stack up and the illustrator then needs to move quickly to catch up and clear the back-log, before another wave of ideas is generated, and it all starts again.
In any given workshop day, the illustrator may be asked to sketch 30-50 A4 drawings, so the emphasis needs to be on finding a good balance between quality of the sketch (i.e. it successfully conveys the essence of the idea and looks good), which takes time, and speed so you can get through the volume. Critical to success is that each sketch tells the story of the idea and that it is memorable - 'a picture says a thousand words' right!
Typically these Ideation Workshops are run for 1 or 2 days, and can be 2 days back to back. If more than one day, you will be invited to join the facilitators in the evening for dinner if you wish. Expenses are paid.
