Comtech Systems, Inc (CSI) has several SharePoint implementations (2007/2010) which run numerous critical workflows that help automate business processes. These workflows have been designed using a combination of SharePoint Designer, InfoPath, C#, TSQL, and third party tools with managed code. CSI is in the process of migrating to Office 365 and SharePoint Online which does not support managed code deployment, therefore, the workflows will not migrate to the cloud SharePoint environment. CSI does not currently have the expertise in SharePoint Online to build and support custom solutions that access data from backend systems such as ERP systems. Consequently, CSI has requested an estimate for the re-engineering of the Vendor Purchase Order Workflow that conforms to SharePoint Online solution best practices. This initial project will be a proof of concept to provide training and knowledge transfer to assist getting the CSI IT team up to speed on how to support and develop customizations in SharePoint Online.
The scope of this project is to analyze the current Vendor Purchase Order Workflow built for SharePoint 2007 and then design, build and test a new solution that is suitable for SharePoint Online. In addition, this will require integrating Microsoft PowerBI and PowerApp solutions to allow communication to the backend ERP system (SQL Server 2012) as well as a thorough knowledge transfer to help prepare the CSI SharePoint resources to support the solution moving forward. The Microsoft On-Premises Data-Gateway has been installed on a Windows Server 2012 VM for this purpose.
Development tools will potentially include Microsoft Flow, PowerBI, PowerApps, Javascript, C# (REST APIs), TSQL and other web tools as appropriate for the O365 SharePoint environment to develop client-side applications.
