This is a site geared towards people with disabilities (and their families). They may range in age and technical abilities, so it is important to make the site as user friendly/intuitive as possible.
Right now, the site's nav is disjointed, the accessibility is minimal. In order to build an online community, users should register, create a profile, and immediately be offered instructions on what the site has to offer and recommendations for others to connect with.
UI/UX Designer
Glimmer, a Chicago-based start-up, is looking to hire a UI/UX Designer to improve their already existing website. Glimmer is the only social media platform geared towards providing a safe, accessible, and welcoming online environment for people with disabilities and their families to connect with one another.
Launching as an application in 2017, Glimmer quickly amassed thousands of users around the globe. A pivot to a mobile-responsive network has allowed Glimmer to accommodate more people, while reducing maintenance costs.
You will:
- Take an existing website and pinpoint areas for improvement/make recommendations
- Work closely with a developer to build a plan
- Provide final blueprint for execution
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- 3+ years of experience as a UX designer
- Professional portfolio of design work
- Experience designing for both web and mobile
- Experience with story mapping
- Be creative and unafraid to make recommendations! You're the professional and we share the same goal
- Experience with social media sites (preferred)
- Great communication skills
- Empathy and understanding for users that meet a wide spectrum - our users have disabilities that range from cognitive to physical, etc.
- Experience with improving site accessibility is a HUGE plus
- Be enthusiastic about working on a project that could potentially help millions of people around the world lead happier lives!
