We are on the hunt for a talented Cloud Architect part-time to help define and to manage our company's cloud architecture and processes. You will play a strategic role in defining and monitoring all cloud systems including the front-end platforms, servers, storage, and management networks.
Visor already counts with an IT group and an Admin group. You design, specify and monitor, they implement and operate.
System definition
- Understand business requirements and overall business model.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization to improve cloud end-to-end architecture with ability to back decisions with research and articulate several options
- Issue recommendations to rationalize existing IBM architecture.
- Work with CTO and director of IT to specify architecture requirements.
- Analyze opportunity for AWS add-ons.
- Analyze opportunity for Hadoop add-ons.
Process definition
- Review and suggest improvements on existing processes on 1. Logs, 2. backup and 3. business continuity.
- Work closely with Visor IT security to define proper Information Governance processes.
- Define other processes as required.
- Drive intensive readiness testing of such processes across all selected cloud platforms.
Implementation and operations
- Supervise the setup of Visor cloud systems by the Visor Admin group.
- Work with IT to drive implementation of architecture requirements.
- Work with CTO, Product Managers, Security, and IT to deploy and operate services within IBM Softlayer and, soon, AWS and/or other cloud providers.
- Monitor servers in cloud environments.
- Monitor execution of basic scripted or compiled code by the Visor IT department.
- Monitor and manage authorization and accesses.
- Monitor backups and contingency database in the entire data system.
- Monitor rotation of users access keys.
- Monitor and request patching of servers.
- Diagnoses problems and issue tickets to the Visor IT or the Visor Admin.
- Supervise the resolution of such problems in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensures security processes are followed and customer data is secured.
- Run compliance and security audit reports and remediate where necessary.
- Remove unused resources in cloud environments.
- Perform other administrative tasks in cloud environments as directed.
Skills and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or relevant field.
- 3-5+ years' experience designing, executing and supporting IT cloud solutions.
- Excellent knowledge of cloud computing technologies and current computing trends.
- Certified as an architect in one or more Public Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Bluemix or Google Cloud Platform). IBM Softlayer a huge plus.
- Experience with load balancing and auto-scaling.
- Experience with micro services architecture concepts and development.
- Experience with deployment orchestration, automation, and security configuration management (Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.) preferred.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, etc.)
- Experience working with cloud security and governance tools.
- Good understanding of enterprise architecture and operational procedures such as availability, recovery, archiving etc.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complicated cloud reports to management and other IT development partners.
