We currently have a in house ERP sort of tool with front end made in MS Access. The backend is a mix of MS Access and Sharepoint List.
Currently, 4 users spread across geographically use the system to enter the information - with the database synced back and forth between each computers using OneDrive.
There is a analytics model build on top of this information with PowerBI.
The problems with the current model is as follows :
- multiple users cannot work simultaneously.
- this rules out mobile devices as data entry devices
- data entry workprocess takes time and involves multiple avoidable steps.
- MOST importantly, the PowerBi model is rarely updated regularly because of on premise gateway connection issues, network connectivity, access database connectivity issues, etc.
We need a solution to this problem. I'm ideally looking for a comparison of the options available (on premise vs cloud, azure vs aws ) and help in choosing the right platform considering long term cost of ownership, reliability and future scope of expansion.
