I'm looking for a game designer to help design and balance the abilities for characters in an upcoming mobile game. I am an experienced game designer myself, but am looking to offload some of my design work so I can focus my time elsewhere.
I will give you a game design document describing the game, as well as the desired outcomes and scope for your work. We'll have a briefing meeting at the start of the project to discuss the game and make sure we are on the same page. Hours and budget are flexible if the work produced is good. Opportunity for long-term partnership as well.
About the Game, codename Defense Arena:
-Mobile game
-Asynchronous PvP
-'Authochess lite'
-Matches have 1 minute of prep / setup, then 20-30 seconds of watching the combat play out
-Player is dealt 10 Heroes at the start of a match, and place 5 of them on a hex grid on their side of the playfield
-Placement of the Heroes is the central element of strategy
-Each Character (hero or minion) has 4 abilities: Synergy, Aura, Combat, and Support
-About 34 Characters in the initial design
About this Project
-The primary objective is to design and balance the 4 Abilities for each Character
-To be clear, this is not a visual/art task, but a game design task: the deliverable will be numbers and text in a spreadsheet
-Draft abilities are already designed for some of the Heroes to be used as exemplars
-The Character Abilities, as a whole, should provide ample amount of unpredictability (some random behavior), variance in outcome (value is context dependent), skill (players with greater knowledge or ability to assess quickly will have an advantage), excitement (risk vs reward and comeback mechanics), grokkability (ability for players to grasp the concept intuitively without need for lengthy explanation)
About the right Candidate
-Will have experience designing for PvP video games
Excited to connect with you on assisting with this game!
