About the Company:
Valenaets Labs is a startup that fights terrorism. We use AI to improve predicting the patterns of terrorist groups throughout the world. Our founders include one of the world's foremost authorities on counterterrorism and a very experienced developer in the field of AI and analytics.
Overview of what we need:
Valenaets Labs is working on its first version of its software to present to investors and beta customers. The first iteration of the AI engine is done - that's the good news. The bad news is that we do not have a UI to present the data. That's where you come in!
Our customers will make queries to the AI engine and the results need to be presented graphically on a map. The data to present to the user will be fed from the AI databases. So for example, the user selects a type of terrorist threat, selects a date range, and perhaps one or two other selections on a menu bar. The app will query the database and retrieve the relevant information to overlay on the map. Our idea is to use a gradient heatmap on the map to show more active areas in different shades than less active areas. The overlay may have to change depending on where the user scrolls or the level of zoom they employ.
You will need to help us with this application. You should be able to
- Develop a responsive front end (with help from us on UI design and layout)
- make the queries to the database (with assistance from the AI team managing the engine and the database)
- present the data on a map based on the results returned.
We *think* we want to use Leaflet, but we are open to other platforms. App speed is essential.
This is a beta project to show V1. We would like to have it done within 4 weeks (1 month after starting). We don't call it a MVP because most MVPs are crappy and buggy. This application will certainly be improved and refined over time, but V1 still needs to be impressive. Gone are the days when investors and users will look past bad interfaces.
This is a contract position, but if you do good work and everything clicks then an opportunity to join the software team as a full time developer is definitely an option.
Because we have a fairly defined initial project, our preference would be to set a flat fee for this deliverable with an agreement for an hourly rate for changes or additional work. We are flexible on this issue so long as we come to a reasonable arrangement
