We are a consulting firm located in Canada. We are developing a unique application for an environmental sensor, and require a control unit, with integrated position and orientation sensing, to be built and integrated with the sensor.
What we require is a system that:
- Calculates position within 1m or better
- Calculates orientation to 0.1 deg or better
- Records time stamped position and orientation
- Interfaces with the sensor over a UART serial port
- Records data from sensor over the serial port
- Transmit wireless to a Windows based computer. A hard-line connection will also be required.
This is a prototype system. The name of the game is quickly and cheaply. We would like this system to be designed with components that are easily procured in Canada, ideally with less than a 2 week lead time for any component.
This project consists of both a hardware and software component.
Hardware:
- We would like the hardware design, with instructions on how to assemble. (We are engineers, so the instructions can be geared for an engineering audience.)
- Test hardware can be built and the shipped to us if lead time is reasonable.
- If it will take too long to build and ship (to be discussed with successful applicant), test hardware can be built and shipped to us at a later date. This will require us to assemble from your hardware design & instructions, and easily sourced materials in Canada.
Software:
- The software will require an interface to interact with the control unit & sensor
- A predefined set of approximately 15 commands will be required by the interface, along with a status display and current sensor reading.
- We will require documented code for the hardware and interface
- We will require a user manual
For ease of managing the project, we'd like to split the project into 4 phases:
1. Hardware selection and costing
2. Software and hardware selection
3. Hardware build and software coding
4. Testing
A review will be performed at the end of each phase, along with periodic updates.
Detailed specifications on the sensor UART serial interface will be provided to interested applicants.
Although we will consider freelancers, an agency may be more suited for this project. If all project goals are met, the successful applicant may be chosen for further work on the project. Additional projects are also possible if a productive relationship is developed.
