Required Editing freelancer for Ongoing: COZY MYSTERY Editing, Copy Editors Beta-Reading Readers Proofreading Proofreader Mysteries job

Posted at - Aug 7, 2018

Ongoing Work! Thank you for your interest in my job post. I represent a small, but growing Publishing Company. At the present time we have a few spots open on our cozy mystery editing team, to help with copy-editing and beta-reading. We are looking to hire talented editors that are interested in an ongoing relationship.

Job tasks:

Copy-Editing: Reviewing and correcting stories to improve accuracy, readability, and fitness for its purpose, and to ensure that it is free of error, omission, inconsistency, and repetition. We work with experienced native English speaking writers, typically based in the USA, UK, & Australia - so editing isn't expected to be anything drastic.

Beta-Reading: Offering suggestions to improve the story, its characters, or its setting. Elements to point out encompass things such as plot holes, problems with continuity, characterization or believability; you may also assist with fact-checking if something doesn't quite seem right.

Final Critiques: Offering overall final feedback on the story for the writer. Also giving your opinion of the writing and story for us.

Project lengths in this genre vary approx. 15,000 words to 60,000 words. The pay for this job is a flat fee of $1.10 per 1000 words (rounded up to nearest 1000 words). So, for example, editing a 15,000 word short story would pay $16.50, a 50,000 word novella would pay $55.00. When applying for the job, apply for 50,000 length ($55) & if you're hired, we'll adjust the length/rate of specific project accordingly at the rate listed above.

Job Requirements:

Teams or agencies need not apply, individuals only please.

Must be a Native English Speaker/Writer with excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading & editing skills.

You understand what makes a good book, in terms of things like plot development and characterization, structure and purpose. You understand what creates suspense, and what draws a reader on to keep reading and reading till the end. You recognize what creates a good resolution, and what falls flat.

Must have Microsoft Word (or equivalent) and know how to use it reasonably well. Stories will be sent in Word (.doc) format and you will need to use track function while doing edits.

Are opinionated, but also know how to express your opinions without killing the writers dreams. You know what you think about things and aren't afraid to say it, but also have the ability to say it kindly.

Preferably are a fan and avid reader of the genre (Cozy Mystery).
