I am involved in a radio research project and am looking for some help with Python programming. We will install an array of 48 antennas this spring, and I am computing parameters for the array installation. I have a Python script that I would like to convert into a function to be used with our main computation and plotting program.
The script computes the required lengths of signal cables and buried cable conduits. I would like to improve that to separate trench vs conduit lengths, and to compute the size and number of conduits that are needed in each trench (2' and 4' diameter).
The plotting in the script should be converted to matplotlib in the function, as is used in the main program. The current plotting is interactive and should be retained as an option.
A special library is currently used to compute cable and conduit lengths. It would likely be best to retain this library in a first draft of the new function, but it would be worthwhile to consider alternate methods of performing the calculations.
The script currently uses o-o programming and I would like to change it, as far as practical, to functional programming, as in the main program.
The new function that will be made from the existing script should be written more clearly and with reasonable comments, so that I and my collaborators can understand and modify the function as needed. We are scientists and engineers, not programmers, so our emphasis is on simple, clear, and understandable programming.
If you think you can help, we can discuss it further, and I can send you examples of the current code.
After this project we will have other programming tasks that we may also want help with.
