Required software development,Website Development freelancer for Python and JSON programmer needed to work with big data. job

Posted at - Nov 8, 2019

Hello,

I am looking for somebody to help me get my products onto my Big Commerce store. We have a dedicated server running Linux, which has a Python script which generates our designs. We need to get the product images generated by this Python script to show against the products on the store. Our products are all POD dropshipped with our custom designs.

Now both the .csv file method and the API method 'work' in principle for uploading product images. However, each one has its own set of problems, which I can't seem to fix.

.csv:
The .csv file process too fast and calls to our server far too regularly and our server then thinks it is being DDOSed. It shuts down and the upload doesn't work. We can upload a few hundred SKUs at a time and we don't encounter this problem, but this is not a realistic long term solution.
We asked BC if we could slow down the system, they said no and pointed us to just shrinking the .csv files.

API:
The API works like magic. Its reasonably quick (-1.5 days to do 13 designs x 6500 names x 9 SKUs per name), and it all shows up brilliantly. However, the API runs into this very odd problem whereby the individual product pages have the product images just fine. But the 'default' product image (the image shown on search results or when browsing through listings) doesn't work, and we end up with a 'Image coming soon' watermark.
We have been in contact a lot with Big Commerce about this and we haven't come up winning yet.

Just for extra information, it appears that you can't edit .csv files with the API or edit API files with the .csv. We have tried mixing the two methods and they just don't talk - errors galore. Perhaps there is an improvement to be had here that maybe an experienced programmer can sort out. The ideal would be .csv all of the products and then API the images - that is the fastest part of both methods.

In short, the deliverable is to have my product catalogue online (roughly 1m SKUs) with Big Commerce. The product images are causing the problem, due to the sheer number of them and the size of the directory in total (-50gb). This can be using the JSON API or the .csv file upload method. My preference will be to use the API as that is a better long-term solution as we will be making more products in the near future so will need to be able to repeat this process.

If successful on this project, there are plenty more bits and bobs that we would like help with to further expand our store.

Anybody working on this would need to sign an non-disclosure and non-compete agreement with regards to our business sector.
More details are available on enquiry.
