-A simulation model about a port with six terminals (instances of the class "Terminal") and an Entry and Exit point (instance of the class "EntryExit"). Each barge needs to visit one or more of the terminals and needs to unload a varying number of containers at each of these terminals. After the barge has unloaded all its cargo, it leaves the system via the Entry and Exit point via a Drain.(We will give an example)
Relevant assumptions and restrictions are:
Choose the number of replications corresponding to a level of your choice for the confidence interval of the performance indicator of your choice (clearly state and motivate your choices). Include table files in your model to register data related to: - Barges: number of containers, sailing distance, waiting and handling times per terminal, total turnaround times, etc. - Terminals: utilization of cranes. - Port: service level(s) (percentage of barges leaving the port on time) and costs. These data are to be collected to serve three purposes: performance measurement, understanding of the system behaviour, and verification.
The model should allow for demonstrations to the problem owners, i.e., the port authority and the investment firm.
All methods should be documented. Methods should start with a brief introduction stating their main purpose. Lines of code should be explained by preceding comments ("green lines").
Use the model to carry out experiments. The best configuration should follow from your experiments.
