Responsibilities:
- Provide database L3/L2 administration support in RDBMS technologies for the environment Sybase ASE 12.x through 16.x on HA configuration, SRS on various hardware flavours
- End-to-End project management, including project plans and requirements, estimates and scope through implementation and deployment
- Administration/Management of Production and test instances/databases
- Work with operations counterparts and coordinate server/instance and database builds, database refreshes, security implementations and production deployments
- Troubleshooting application/database day to day issues during support and provide solutions and problem analysis
- Provide SME support in Sybase technologies to a large group of developers and testers
- Documentation around database setup, Day to day activity, procedures, issues and their resolution
Skills:
- Substantive 5+ years relevant experience providing L3/L2 production database administration services in RDBMS technologies for Sybase ASE, SRS on various hardware flavours
- Strong experience in latest versions Sybase ASE 12.x through 16.x and Sybase Replication 15.5/15.7 (warm standby and MSA)
- Strong understanding of database architecture and O/S knowledge with resource management (memory, disk, and CPU including SMP) in Sybase
- Strong experience in Infrastructure support (i.e Build the instance, DB migration, DB upgrade and Patching)
- Strong experience in the areas of Performance tuning at all levels (Server, Database, SQL, Application, sub-system) include database maintenance using DBCC, update statistic, rebuild and reorg
- Day-to-day production operations including incident service, server health monitor, database/table space management, Storage optimization, BCP, backup/restore and under replication,
- Analysing and monitor system performance using DBCC, traceon commands, query plan output, system procedures like sp_sysmon and other performance monitoring tools
- Expert in Sybase replication support for building warm standby and MSA types of replication, two way replication Backup/recovery, planning DR strategy, Performance Tuning
- Expert for recommendations with regard to aspects of Sybase systems infrastructure (e.g. database performance, application performance, data security, data usability)
- Research, analyse and present suitable solutions to meet business and technical needs as a DBA (application or System DBA).
- Strong understanding database interfacing technologies such as ODBC, JDBC and database native clients (such as Sybase ASE open client, Sybase IQ JCONECT).
- Strong knowledge on Shell/Perl Scripting with Unix/Linux, Window and Solaris -sense of urgency
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to describe complex technical scenarios in a concise manner, both verbally and written, and articulating the content depending on the audience
- Candidate should have ownership & urgency, attention to detail, flexibility, process orientation, strong analytical skills, sense of vigilance & adherence to all compliance procedures & policies
- Experience in Sybase IQ Server is a plus
