I'm doing a personal side project to collect an anthology of true stories centered around womanhood. I'd like to share these unique stories on a blog or to compile them into a greater work. I'm looking for unique stories, positive and negative, from throughout the world that can help encapsulate the commonality of growing up and living as a woman in today's modern world.
The broad categories will be something related to:
- Identity (early development, teenage years)
- Love (romance, falling in love, getting married)
- Life (child birth, raising children, adoption, etc)
- Duty (career development as a woman, community and personal beliefs)
- Wisdom (later stages of life, post menopausal life, grandchildren)
- Death (stories around death, and stories around women in her later years)
Some specific more controversial topics include:
- Stories about miscarriages, abortions
- Transgender / queer issues
- Women who have grown up in patriarchal societies (breast binding, genital mutilation)
- Women who have experienced mental health / body health issues (anorexia, bipolar, etc)
- Stories about arranged marriages
- Stories about infidelity, divorce, abusive relationships
- Stories about self-sacrifice (giving up ones dream, supporting children, a spouse)
- Stories about regret
- Stories about loneliness in old age
Some more positive uplifting stories include:
- Doing something stupid as a teenager / getting caught
- Testing your parents
- Running away from home
- First menstruation
- Young love / first romance
- Romeo and Juliet type stories / stupid things we did because we were in love
- Giving birth / first child / adoption
- Taking care of your parents / taking care of children
- Special memories with grandchildren
- Retirement and adventures in old age
If any of this sounds interesting and you may have a story you'd like contribute, please message me and we can figure it out :)
