ABOUT ME

I am a bilingual student at the university of the west of England, studying communication and media studies. I believe that I have enough knowledge of all sectors due to the internships I have managed to do, the volunteer work I have done and my studies.
For 3 years I have volunteered in the ‘Community Care' unit at the Jordan Association for Family Planning and Protection. This center caters for contraception and sexual health, both controversial in Jordan and provoking a hostile local reception. However, years of awareness-raising social media and presentations in local centers began attracting women from all walks of life, offering them life-saving medical care. I nurtured these skills in a corporate context when working in the Gulf Oil Corporation's Human Resources department, using communication to liaise between the regional headquarters and Jordanian local employees.
I applied these transferable skills to my own environment in April 2017 as the Head Organizer of my school's Charity Fashion Show, harnessing over $4,000. During this process, I created a proposal to the school requesting the fashion show and an appropriate budget; designed a set and tickets; and attracted an audience using social media accounts such as Instagram and Facebook. Seeing the money go to charity ingrained my desire to help Jordanians communicate their causes.
At school, I provided a unique contribution of bridging the gap between families from different tribes, socioeconomic classes, and thought. I was an agent for Habitat for Humanity, gathering all students in my year to build a home for a family who had lost their father. I also acted as set designer for the play Matilda, ensuring that the stage was in a circle to facilitate intimate seating for the audience members who were unfamiliar with each other. Bonding events such as this is a way of using communication to build a sense of community, a contribution I hope to make in my working environment.
I aim to set up an establishment that applies international techniques of public relations, information technology, and social media, but that allows Jordanians to take the reigns on their own narrative. Working in the UK exposes me to the conduct, creativity, and ethics of the field, and – with my cultural and personal experiences – I will soon communicate my own ideas to bridge the Jordanian and international field.
