I worked in bank for 10 years. Recently I worked as a Credit Risk Specialist. My job is to maintain and update the risk control processes to minimize losses from non-paying loans.
MY duties and responsibilities are as follows:
1. Understands the products offered by the Bank and the processes implied
2. Generates Portfolio Quality Report (PQR) and other credit reports monthly. Analyzes date, summarizes findings and recommends based on findings
3. Reviews causes why loans stop repaying/become past due and identifies underlying reasons for non-payment
4. Identifies specific controls that can be used to ensure loans are not made to clients who are likely to become past due
5. Reviews the levels of past due loans by demographic profile and defines target segments for loan sales/segments that may demand different collections processes
6. Maintains a detailed understanding of the data contained within the IT system and the analysis that may be done on this data to predict non-payment
7. Works with product development teams on new product development/confirmation of controls to be deployed in new products
8. Supports the Risk Officer in computing specific provision, reviews performance on loan loss rates and identify areas where additional controls should be implemented
9. Provides inputs to Audit and training teams to ensure staff adheres to policies
10. Assists with the internal and external reporting obligations for the risk department
