.swp file in unix :(

I am getting below error when i wrote hello.sh shell script file and try to open it:

Swap file ".helloworld.sh.swp" already exists!
[O]pen Read-Only, (E)dit anyway, (R)ecover, (Q)uit, (A)bort:

why it created .swp file automatically?
How to tell unix not to ask this question.

please advise

Thanks

thank you Jesse. This .swp file was not visible. After some research i found it using "ls -a" command. Thanks!

You can remove .swp file. It's created when you open a file. It stays there if you were unable to close the file properly (like session terminated). It's safe to rm this file.
