Having a strong online presence is a must and first step to start your freelance career. Great portfolio, engaging bio, and clearly described skills sum up a good impressive profile along with a recent image.
Making a good profile is an art which you learn over the time. This profile can make or break your freelance careers. A great profile always wins the jobs, hence it is worth investing your time in shaping an attractive profile. If your profile is not strong enough, your client will choose a less skilled freelancer whose profile looks better.
So, how to create a good, strong profile that actually attracts the clients? If you have a similar question in your mind, you are at the right place. Before you go make a profile, write down the below points and make a draft for each field. When you are satisfied with your draft, go make a live profile.
It appears right below your name and the first thing that gives a glimpse of what you do. The title should be short, crisp and clear. It should clearly convey the nature of work you do. Avoid making it bigger then 5-6 words, you will have enough chances to describe yourself in the description part. 'Experienced Web developer’, ‘Creative content writer', 'Expert java developer', 'Digital marketing guru' are some examples of good titles.
A recent good looking photo makes your profile much interesting. Do not use the images of cartoons, animals, landscapes or anything else other then you. The profile photo should show your professional, friendly and calm image with full face coverage. It is better to get it reviewed by others as your own favorite photo might not represent you the way you want.
This is the part that gives you leverage to talk about yourself. The first two lines in your description must highlight a very brief of your years of experience, expertise and the work you are willing to take. After the opening 2 lines you can be as creative as you want but avoid bragging about yourself. Be clear and also give a brief how good and flexible you are. Again, avoid making it too big to read. 2-3 paragraphs are good enough in your profile.
Add your degrees, certifications, institutions. It will make your credentials trustworthy.
Make sure your contact details are up-to-date. It will help you to get important notifications and moreover if you happen to forget your passwords, these are the ways to recover. Also, setting up accounts and payment methods is very important, be careful about it.
This one is the only thing that can get you jobs single handedly. Make your best work visible in the portfolio and describe it in a clear way. This is the time to mention your past work and organizations in your profile. Creating a good portfolio deserves a separate full length article.
In the upcoming blogs we will see how to make successful bids, creating a good portfolio and managing payment and taxes.
