Import an existing Linux-based virtual machine into the Azure cloud environment

We have an existing virtual machine image running under VMWare and also available as an ova/ovf file. We would like to know the exact steps on how to import this machine into our Azure account.
We will provide the ova/ovf and any support needed to get it running; we have something similar on our AWS infrastructure but we are unfamiliar with Azure and are asked to deploy it there as well.
