Revise website landing page to make it really grab you

Have an existing website. But the landing page is too dense. What is now the landing page can be part of the follow-on site. But need to look and what we have and create something that if someone goes to, they just dont turn off and go away.

Also, suggestions on the remainder of the website would be welcome, but the priority is getting the landing site right.
