Remote Architecture Job In Engineering And Architecture

Gas sensor PCB design and Prototype generation

Intro

The project is the design and production of prototype gas sensor PCB.

Detailed objective

The objective is to design and develop a PCB with mounted gas sensors to measure Hydrogen, Hydrogen Sulphide, and Methane levels. 5 PCBs units will be manufactured for proof of concept testing. The PCBs with the sensors will be able to be powered Via Micro USB.

The end goal for this project is to develop a compact portable gas sensor. As a result, all sensors and other componentry need to be selected with size and power efficiency in mind.

The starting point for sensor selection

3 sensors have been identified that look to have the desired combination of features and form factor. These are just a starting and no doubt there are better sensors available that can meet required detection range, footprint and power efficiency requirements. An assessment of the market is required to look at other available options

Hydrogen sensor:
Detection range:0-100ppm
Hydrogen Sulphide Sensor:
Detection range:0-10ppm
Methane sensor
Detection range:0-10ppm

Data

Target gas measurements will be stored onboard in and be able to be exported when connected Via USB as a text/CSV. It is expected that the PCB should be able to record over 24hours with a recording made approx. every minute for all 3 gases. Exact capacity and sensing interval to be finalised with component selection. All recorded gas measurements will be time stamped.

Deliverables

Create a block diagram
Select critical components (based on performance, energy consumption, size, cost, and availability)
Design the schematic circuit diagram
Generate the Bill of Materials (BOM)
Design the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout
Organise manufacture 5 pieces of PCB for Proof of Concept testing

Budget

Initial Budget to be negotiated

Who We are after

We are after a PCB designer and electronics with experience with gas sensors (preferably MEMS sensors) that has a track record of bringing projects from ideation through to delivery. This project is the first phase of a larger project.
