Need help with a montior/graphics card issue

I have 2 monitors. One monitor (my primary one) is connected to my PC through a HDMI cable, the other one is connected through a DVI cable (my secondary monitor is not HDMI compatible). The issue Im having is that whenever I attempt to play a particular game I cannot adjust the in game brightness on it whenever my second monitor is connected through the DVI cable to the PC (all other games work ok with brightness whilst the second monitor is plugged in). I can unplug the DVI cable and the in game brightness will work perfectly fine but not whilst it is plugged in. Ideally Id like to keep the second monitor on whilst playing the game and not have to unplug it every time. Ive tried to use a VGA cable to connect my second monitor to the PC on my motherboard slot but it just says ‘no signal every time. Im not sure if theres a motherboard issue there or not. Hope this makes sense. Please feel free to ask any questions.
