Joomla Website Fix Speed Performance

I have a joomla website that I havent used in years. They site is super slow loading. Almost takes 35 seconds to load the page. The site use to work fine, I dont know why it is loading so slow. I now work with wordpress and need someone who is a joomla expert.

It could be because of the image sizes possibly?? On wordpress I use a plugin smush images and it automatically compresses all the images without losing noticeable quality.

Let me know what you will do to fix the speed of this site?
