ArcGIS Designer/Developer for an Interactive Campus Map

Background

We are working with a major university in Texas to demonstrate the power of giving and it impact on the entire worldwide academic network. The mission of the project is to create a storytelling platform that highlights the stories that are created and told from that financial impact.
We have been tasked with translating facts and figures into stories that users can consume. The goal is to marry the actual dollar amounts in funding to the stories that are created from that giving.

Scope

In order to do that we will create an interactive platform that allows users to interact with a campus map with 3D buildings. Each building will serve as a content silo in such a manner that when a user taps or clicks on a building, they can see all of the stories that originate from that building. Once a user finds a specific story they liked, then they can choose to read or continue to that story.

The financial data that we have should serve as an animated layer to symbolize the spirit of giving.
We are seeking to create a similar interactive experience that is branded for the university and translates their data into stories.

The platform will have 5 main pages and a single silo of content. The easiest way to consider the content structure is to think of a standard WordPress website; 5 main pages plus a blog structure with unlimited posts. This is the same way we will structure the content and stories in the platform.

Technical Requirements

We have a few different directions we can take the project. We believe that ArcGIS is the platform that can get the job done well. From there we would like to either use the ESRI web app exclusively or create a WordPress based solution that will house the content itself.
The university itself does provide GIS data of the campus, but we are not sure how well developed the data is for our purposes. We also have access to financial data in excel/csv files.
The platform will ultimately be self-managed and/or self-hosted. So we are looking to create a platform that has a great user experience and management experience within reason.
Depending on the skills and needs of our development team members, we will supply UI, UX, graphic design, and copywriting to the developer.

Process

The developer will be working alongside designers, copywriters, and a product manager to help deliver the experience. The developer and product manager will work together through the technical requirements of the project to get to the desired experience.

The copywriter, UI, and UX designer will supply content to the developer that fills out the experience. A separate front-end developer will also be aiding in the creation of the front-end experience. We will balance the workload based on individual skills and capabilities.

Once the experience is built, it will be tested internally, by the client, and a few beta testers. We aim to launch 60-90 day window after start.

Next Steps

We are currently prototyping several solutions to see which is the most feasible direction. We would love to involve the developer in the process from a technical standpoint.
Our projects all start with a dedicated discovery phase with planning and strategy. We are looking to push through this stage with a full team set in place. If you are an ArcGIS designer/developer that would like to creatively visualize data through storytelling, please apply.
