Desktop application GUI with buttons and image handling - milestone 1

This is a larger project, to be executed in milestones. For the first milestone, the main GUI should be constructed with buttons laid out as in the attachment. The UI should also offer basic image handling capabilities, such as a file open and display. A powerpoint prototype and movie are provided to better explain the needs of this project.
