The Historic Preservation Board ruled that the brick wall and chimney must be reconstructed to match the design, dimensions, and architectural features of the original brick wall and chimney. We have asked Mr. Romriell to provide an architectural elevation drawing that represents the original chimney design as best as possible based on available photos.
One drawing directly facing the west elevation may be adequate. The drawing can be similar drawing that share with shortlisted candidates, previously submitted and can be done by hand. The drawing needs to be drawn to scale and must show dimensions. The drawing must show the brick pattern, the stepped brick detail on both sides of the chimney, the rectangular pattern of projecting brick in the center of the chimney, and the proposed chimney pot. The drawing needs to show the chimney at its original height, which was 8 to 10 rows of brick taller than the current chimney.
We also need the following information:
1) Mortar product specifications describing its composition and color (cannot include a high percentage of Portland cement; color should match mortar on the rest of the home).
2) Chimney pot picture, plans, and product specifications (needs to match or be similar to the original).
Once we receive the elevation drawing and specifications for the mortar and chimney pot, we can grant an approval certificate and building permit, which will authorize Mr. Romell to continue work on the chimney. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
