Microsoft SQL server connection issue

I use Microsoft SQL database for local point of sale. we have a server that hold the main database. I was purging some data using the point of sale like normally would. it took long time to purge few records. the database connection lost. error cannot open the database masterxpress requested by the login. the login failed. the login has not changed. I believe it either got locked or something else. need assistance from someone who know how to use sql server management studio or database connections.
