Image researcher for books

A small UK-based publishing house is looking for a picture researcher to work with us on a series of guidebooks that introduce readers to the culture of different countries around the world. The books are in English, and your job will be to find suitable images to illustrate the text.

There are over 105 guides in the series, so for the right candidate there is the potential for a lot of future work. We will start by commissioning you for one title and, based on the results, would be happy to commission you for more.

Each book requires approximately 40-60 pictures, depending on the word count of the text. The books are printed in black and white and the images must be sourced from creative commons image services such as Flickr, Wiki Commons, Pixabay etc. We also have a subscription to Canva.

For each book you will have to present a selection of relevant high-res images for each chapter (there are nine chapters in total) and provide acknowledgments.

You will be working as part of a team of editors and image researchers, so good communication is vital, as is the ability to meet deadlines. As previously mentioned, the books are in English, so you will need a relatively good command of English in order to be able to follow the text closely and recognise what images to look for. Access to InDesign is a plus, though not essential.
