Data science/ML tools project needs a developer for a long-term collaboration

Not HR, not agency. This post comes from a founder and one the creators of the project. This is not a web-development project. This is a low-level command line tool.

We are a remote distributed team of 6 engineers at the DVC project. The project is Apache 2 licensed, 100% open source. It has 2400+ Github stars and an excellent traction.

The project is a command line Git-like tool written in Python. The idea behind the project - change the way ML and data science projects are built now, create a tool that is integrated with the local DS workflow but provides a framework to track experiments, collaborate, track and version data, etc. ML engineering tools is a rapidly developing space and DVC is becoming an essential part of it.

The company behind the project is VC funded.

We have a very strong team of engineers and data scientists, including all executives. Strong experience in building and supporting open source project, as well as building startups, scalable web services, etc.

We are looking for a senior engineer to join the DVC core team. We are looking for a long-term relationship. We treat our contractors as full-time employees - paid vacations, conferences (this year well attend and speak at PyCon, OReilly AI, etc).

Strong Python knowledge and excellent coding culture (standards, unit test, etc) is required (or a lot of experience with other languages and some knowledge of Python) - the tool is written in Python (the decision was made because Python is a standard language in ML and data science).

Things you must have:

- Can work remotely and do not require babysitting.
- Can respect and communicate well with other team members.
- Can focus and deliver a task w/o constantly switching to other stuff - respect teams planning, deadlines, etc.
- Can respect and communicate with users - this is extremely important for an open source project.
- Motivation and interest.

Things that are good to have:

- Open source contributions or experience of maintaining, developing an open source project.
- System programming experience - kernel, databases, etc.
- Machine learning or data science experience or at least some interest in this space.
