6 Tips to Side Hustle Successfully While Working Full Time Job

According to a 2021 survey conducted by Harris Poll, one in three Americans i.e. a whopping 34 percent of Americans have a side hustle. 61.1 million Americans (24 percent) had plans to start a side hustle in 2021.

That's according to a recent Zapier survey of 2,001 Americans over 18 conducted online by The Harris Poll. The data also shows that many of these side hustles are relatively new. Among Americans who have a side hustle, two-thirds (67 percent) started it within the past three years, and about 3 in 10 (31 percent) started in 2020.

Side-hustling is the new normal! In another more recent survey, 70 percent of those interviewed said ‘side-hustles’ or 'ethical moonlighting' are the real shot to fame and 69 percent shared that they would want to earn from their hobbies.

The definition of success has changed. More and more people are now looking at becoming debt-free very early in life. Some are even looking ahead towards early retirement and hence turning to multiple flows of income.

Early retirement, wealth creation, or being debt-free, a side hustle can help you achieve your dream faster. It makes you financially strong, and competent and boosts your capabilities.

So how do you manage your side hustle while concurrently trying to maintain a work-life balance and working a full-time job?

1. Figure out what your passion is –

Most of us are stuck with a 9-to-5 job that we don’t like. If you are planning to start a side hustle why not follow your passion. Eric worked full-time as a software developer. But, he loved cars. He started a car accessories store as a side hustle. Eric not only followed his passion but created an extra source of income for himself by following his passion. After work, he loves to sit in his store and accessories the cars and make money out of it. You could have any passion like gardening, playing golf, performing magic, photography. Just figure it out and convert that into your side hustle.

2. Consider using freelancer platforms and joining online communities –

Freelancing is a booming economy. More and more people are opting for freelancing nowadays. It lets you earn without binding you with any contract. We would not recommend doing freelancing for a completely unknown random stranger though unless you are doing it via a reliable freelancing platform like Toogit. You can also join relevant communities on Reddit and similar platforms as well. Toogit also has a dedicated space for freelancers where they can interact and chat with each other.

If you are just starting with freelancing platforms, it might take time to build up a repo and get your first freelancing job. But, you need to keep believing in yourself and keep working towards it.

3. Set a schedule –

Time management is the most important thing to keep a perfect balance between your full-time job, side hustle, and family. The best way to deal with this is to set a schedule. So, set a schedule and stick to it. This will make you feel more in control and perfect work and life balance.

4. Have a clear picture of your goals –

Many of us have a goal of a debt-free life, an early retirement, or wealth creation. What is your goal? You need to have a clear picture of that in your mind. This would help you justify the extra time and effort you are putting into your side hustle. When you are starting a side hustle you will also be your boss. There won’t be any regular feedback on your performance or annual appraisals. A clear goal will help you assess your progress and performance at regular intervals. You can then decide whether you are on the right path or not. So, set up a goal first.

5. Understand your employment contract –

Some employers explicitly mention in their contracts that an employee cannot work anywhere else while working for them. It would be wise to check your contract in that case before starting your side hustle. You can always take a legal expert's advice when in doubt.

6. Slow and steady wins the race –

Consistency and perseverance are the keys to success when you are into a side hustle. Keep focus and keep moving inch by inch towards your goal and success will be yours. After all, slow and steady always wins the race.
