Uniprocessor Traces-:
-Show that the programs have different locality, and there are programs with "good" or"bad" locality.
- Show the influence of the cache size on the miss rate.
-Study the influence of the block size on the miss rate.
-Show the influence of the block size on the miss rate, but in this case, for several cache sizes.
-Analyse the influence of the mapping on the miss rate for several cache sizes.
-Show the influence of the replacement policy on the miss rate.
Multiprocessor Traces:-
-Study the influence of the cache size on the miss rate during the execution of a parallel program in an SMP (symmetric multiprocessor). This project also allows us to show that all the previous uniprocessor projects can be performed in a similar way for multiprocessor systems(multiprocessor traces).
-Show the influence of the cache size on the bus traffic during the execution of a parallel program in an SMP.
-Study the influence of the cache coherence protocol on the miss rate during the execution of a parallel program in a symmetric multiprocessor.
-Analyse the influence of the cache coherence protocol on the bus traffic during the execution of a parallel program in an SMP.
-Study the influence of the number of processors on the miss rate during the execution of a parallel program in a symmetric multiprocessor.
-Evaluate the influence of the number of processors on the bus traffic during the execution of a parallel program in a symmetric multiprocessor.
A simple lab report that must have the following headings:
Aims and objectives: What was the purpose of the experiment? What was it supposed to reveal?
Materials: List everything needed to complete your experiment. (Hardware/Software)
Introduction/Theory: The introduction should give some background on the problem your experiment investigated. Theory section presents theoretical models, equations, physical principles, etc., that are relevant to the investigation described in the report. It should be within one page.
Methods/Procedure: Describe the steps you completed during your investigation. You need to describe what YOU did. Make good use of diagrams, sketches, or photographs to show important layout, wiring and connections
Experimental: Results and explanations present your results and summarise the data using figures and tables. Each figure and each table must have a number and a caption. Do not simply dump a bunch of graphs and tables into this section with no explanation. It is best to locate figures and tables within the text (and preferably on the same page where they are referred to) rather than grouping them together at the end of the report.
Discussion: Discuss the meaning and importance of the experimental results, compare the results to theoretical predictions, describe the accuracy of the results, address discrepancies, and ultimately draw conclusions in regards to the objectives of the experiment.
Conclusions and Recommendations: This section summarizes the conclusions that have been made and gives specific recommendations for the next steps that could be taken in subsequent experiments or further research.
References: If your research was based on someone else's work or if you cited facts that require documentation, then you should list these references.
In SMP change the figures and compare them against each other, as well as the algorithms, e.g. LRU, FIFO, etc. Come up with your own aims and objectives, as well as theories.
