Hello all.
I am looking for weighing scales electronics and PCB to be designed.
The scales will be used in veterinary practices to weigh animals that don't always stand still right away. No digital display is required as weight reading should be shown on customers phone.
This is my idea for this product:
Customer opens scales app on their phone. Animal stands on scales which turns them on and weight reading is taken. This should be in real time displayed on customers phone. It would feel more accurate if the digits or dial can be seen to move on the phone to give a more realistic experience similar to that of standing on mechanical scales. Communication is facilitated via Bluetooth, unless you feel Wi-Fi is better? Animals may take about 15 seconds to keep still enough for a stable weight measurement. This needs to be considered when designing.
Customer then has the option to save the weight reading within the weighing app.
A few things I'm not sure about. Should the scale also have a power switch that turns them on? I don't want the scales to keep turning on, unnecessarily draining the battery. One customer has shown an interest in having the scales installed directly into the floor so passing foot traffic could inadvertently turn them on when not required. The idea would be that customers would bring their dog's into the surgery without having to interact with the reception desk or the vet, place the dog onto the scales and the reading would be shown and saved onto the app.
This design should work from battery, not power supply.
Something that would be really beneficial to my design is if the scales only need to be calibrated when first setup and then periodically there after. Also if the animal is already on the scales when the app is open is it possible to take a weight reading without making the animal get off and then back on the scales? This would be a good feature if possible.
All feedback is welcome.
