Excel Guru Who Can Create Macro for Removing Special Characters

I have a large (12k) contact list that contains a variety of special characters which need to be either removed or replaced by other characters.

Heres an example: Guti\u00c3\u00a9rrez I would like someone to design a macro (or use a tool) to replace this with Gutiarrez

There are dozens of special characters used and some correspond to an english letter and others should be removed. For those that are illegible we would like them excluded entirely.
