We have a Ruby on Rails site that teaches English to Korean people.
We have had this site for about 2.5 years, and it has been worked on by two developers.
It works this way:
Students pay monthly subscription.
About 18 days a month, a subscriber (student) logs in and writes a passage (diary) in English with a limited number of text characters (250 or 500).
Then they submit this, and it is sent to one teacher ("pre-checker") admin who corrects the English a little bit.
Then it is automatically forwarded to another teacher (admin 1) who corrects the English some more.
Then it is automatically forwarded to another teacher (admin 2) who corrects it more and adds some Korean comments and feedback.
Then it is sent back to the student and viewable by the student on the site.
This is simplified, and it is a little more complicated with several different extra features, but that's the gist.
We have 6 different phases of work we need done by a skilled and experienced ROR developer.
You can see the descriptions of the work below. For all phases, price is broken down in the following way:
60% after work completion.
40% after testing period of 14 days following the changes.
We will need any problems fixed before releasing the 40%.
Each phase can happen at the same time as the testing period. E.g. After you finish Phase 1, Phase 1 testing and Phase 2 work can begin at the same time.
Phase 1:
Super-admin feature.
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Phase 2:
"Starred" and "To review" diaries.
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Phase 3:
General changes to corrections site.
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Phase 4:
Adding a cheaper service
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Phase 5:
Adding a free trial service
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Brief description:
Add a free trial service which gives new students two free diary entries. To sign up, the student has to enter a phone number and receive an activation code. The student is then encouraged to sign up for the full paid service after trying the trial. We will complete the detailed instructions at a later date, but this is the gist.
Phase 6:
Adding a coupon feature
Timeframe: 14 days, then 14 days testing period.
$110 (60% after completion, 40% after testing period)
Brief description:
We would like to add a coupon function to our site. There should be an admin side where we can generate coupons with specific details, and students should be able to apply these coupons for either discounts or extra free time added to their membership. And the site should send us an auto-generated email once a week, informing us of how many coupons of each type have been used, and by whom. We will complete the detailed instructions later, but this is the gist.
Completion bonus to be paid after end of Phase 6 testing: $140
Total: $800
If you can finish each phase within 10 days per phase (excluding testing period), so total project time 6x10 days (+14 days final testing), we will give an extra $150 bonus at the end of the test period.
Total: $800+$150=$950
Important points:
- This project is divided into six phases so we can check the quality of the work in stages. If a phase isn't done correctly or is taking too long, we reserve the right to cancel the project. We need to get the work done quickly and properly.
- We have wasted a lot of time in the past after things which were developed on the site caused side effects and problems. So we are looking for someone very smart who thinks about any effects or problems with changes they make.
- If you take pride in your work and enjoy making something perfect, we would like to hear from you. - We have used Toogit a lot and spent 1,000s of dollars here, and got good feedback. We want to build a long term, successful work relationship with a reliable, passionate developer.

- Make explanation videos showing you how our service works.
- Give you full access to everything, which involves other people too.
