We are at the end of the development cycle of a cam site. Our developers have not been able to get the wowza based streaming environment faster than a 12s latency over hls. Our competitors are 5-6s and we must hit this goal in order to be competitive. Our model requires us to support tens of thousands of viewers and we have been told hls is the only viable option, but we would also like to explore the idea of using webrtc as well, if it all possible.
We have ripped out all of the streaming/viewing logic from the application, dropped it on a test page, which is pointed at a test wowza instance. So we are able to provide immediate access to our streaming environment, sans all of the logic associated with site behind it.
