Search Engine Optimisation (SEO): Part 3

In part 1 and part 2 we have discussed Contents, Backlinks, URLs, and Images. These all are best techniques of SEO but the most precious and important part is Keywords.

Keywords are the search queries user enters in the search engine. Keywords are the first priority of search engines when finding the results.

In this post we will see different methods to optimize your visibility by using keywords effectively.

Estimate keyword’s value

The value of a keyword means how many visitors you get for a keyword. Means if you are an e-commerce website, keyword ‘red t-shirts’ might give you more visitors then ‘t-shirts’. The later one is more competitive and big players must have already utilized it at its full. So, for you, ‘red t-shirts’ brings more value than ‘t-shirts’.

It is important that the keyword must be relevant to what your page offers. And will the searcher actually find what he was looking for on your website? Will the search be a success i.e. will the searcher be happy with the search result if he searched the your keyword.

If yes

Then check the other websites which comes in the search results with the same keyword so that you know whom you are competing with and how hard the competition will be.

Analyze the results and make a decision that how much you can invest in a particular keyword. Then buy sample campaign on Google Adwards and Bing Adcenter and divert the traffic on your desired page.

Calculate total number of impressions and total number of visitors and find out how much a single visitor costs you on your keyword campaign. This Adwordsprocess is an in depth study. You will get more on Adwords in upcoming posts.

Keyword Competition difficulty

Which keywords you want to target depends on two factors:

  1. How many times the keyword is searched in a month on an average.
  2. How big are the brands in first 10 results

Try taking the less competitive keywords most searched relevant keywords. Also, if the first ten results are of big brands you are just starting on the web, the battle of rankings will take years of efforts.

Know keyword search patterns

Most common keywords are high priced and highly competitive. To choose your keywords smartly, you should be well aware about the search patterns of users.

Knowing the difference between search query and search keyword can help you choose them smartly. One word keywords are most competitive and costly as well. But they don’t give sales or visitors every time. ‘Formal shoes for men’ will be highly competitive and high priced keyword but the search does not indicate that the searcher is actually going to book the hotel. Means the sale through this phrase is less prone. Consider this phrase ‘Best price for red chief formal shoes for men’ is more sale prone but less searched. It won’t give hundred visitors every day but if it does give ten visitors one sale would be highly expectable.

Similarly try finding the better phrases for your keyword campaign, then analyze the results and make changes accordingly.
