ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Bea and I'm from the Philippines. I am a graduating Geodetic Engineering major only left with the completion of my thesis entitled ,"Quantitative comparison of geodetic network designs for Static GNSS Observations" at UP Diliman, the flagship campus of the premier institution of higher learning in the Philippines. I entered UP Diliman as a Math major so I have taken up Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, and Fundamental Concepts of Mathematics courses. I was awarded the “Insular Life Gold Eagle College Scholarship” for two semesters when I was still a Math major. I also have taken up Elementary Statistics at the university and had a 1.75 as a final grade, I almost aced one Statistics 101 exam and only had one mistake in that exam as far as I recall. I also had Research subjects in high school where there was an instance or there were instances when I was the first one to finish and answer the Statistics problems correctly during class discussion exercises so I was given a prize by my teacher. As a Geodetic Engineering major, I have taken up Elementary Analysis III which also tackled partial differentiation, multiple integrals, infinites series and differential equations etc. Our Geodetic Engineering course entitled "Mathematical Methods in Geodetic Engineering" also covered topics such as matrices, systems of equations, interpolation, differentiation and integration, ordinary differential equations, linear differential equations, higher order differential equations and code development for numerical solutions etc. In terms of Math skills, I was awarded as "Best in Math " from Grades Four to Six and from First Year High School to Third Year High School as far as I recall. I always joined the "Australian Mathematics Competition" when I was in high school and was awarded "Certificate of Merit " and "Certificate of Proficiency" etc. I always won the "Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge " from "First Place" to "Third Place" when I was in elementary and high school even in the division level and sometimes reach regional level. I even won as "Champion" together with my other teammates during the "Math Relay Competition(Regional Level)" when I was in Third Year HS. I also joined "Math Quiz" and "Math Investigation" competitions when I was in high school and always won. I passed the UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test) and qualified for admission to UP Diliman (the flagship campus of UP, the country’s national university and premier institution of higher learning in the Philippines). That year, approximately 17% or about 12,700 of the over 74,000 examinees who took the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) qualified for the university. UPCAT is comprised of Math, Science, English, Language Proficiency and Reading Comprehension subtests. In terms of Science skills, I always joined Science Quiz Bee in elementary. During the Division Level Science Quiz Bee when I was in Grade Six, I reached the tie breaker round so I got either the Fourth Place or Sixth Place out of 90 plus schools. When I was in Third Year HS, we presented our Science Investigatory Project, a research project in which we made a “Kalhora” patty, a nutritious vegetable patty made from Kalabasa (squash) and horse radish (malunggay) which can serve as a healthy substitute for patty made from meat during the Regional Science and Technology Fair. We presented our "Land Development and Valuation" research project proposal entitled " Dayaon's Haven " during the 14th Geomatics Student Project Colloquium at UP Diliman. I also have taken up Physics 71, Physics 71.1, Physics 72, Physics 72.1, Physics 73, Physics 73.1, Bio 1, Chem 1, Chem 16, Chem 17, Geol 1, Geol 11, and Engineering Science courses at UP Diliman that enhanced my knowledge and skills in Science and Engineering. In terms of writing skills, I always joined and won writing and journalism contests from elementary until high school. I won the "Third Place" in the "Newswriting (English)" category at the "Division Schools Press Conference" and competed during the "Regional Schools Press Conference" in HS. I also won "First Place" in a poetry writing contest in HS. I also joined essay writing contests in HS and won. I was "Literary Editor" of our school paper “Dagupeñan Sparks” when I was in 4th Year HS. I was also "Editor-in-Chief" of our school paper when I was in Grade Six as far as I recall. I also have taken up English and communication courses at UP Diliman such as Eng 1, Eng 10, Eng 11, Eng 30, and Comm 3 which enhanced my reading, writing, speaking and communication skills. In terms of academic achievements, I was a consistent honor student in elementary and graduated as "Valedictorian" from Nagkaisang Nayon Elementary School (NNES), a public elementary school. I was "Topnotcher" during the entrance exam at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) - Special Science Class (SSC) which later became DCNHS- Science and Technology- Oriented(STO) Curriculum, a public science high school. I was a consistent honor student in high school and graduated with "2nd Honorable Mention" from DCNHS-STO. I passed the UPCAT and entered UP Diliman as a Math major before shifting to Geodetic Engineering. That's why the Math and Geodetic Engineering courses that I have taken from the university further enhanced my knowledge and skills in Math. In terms of work experience, I already worked as a part-time tutor before who taught Math, Science and English subjects etc. where I helped my student ace her quizzes and tests especially in Math so I have learned the essence of having patience in dealing with people and the importance of working hard to accomplish something that is planned. I have taught a college student, an Architecture major, once in a Geodetic Engineering lesson which she found difficult to grasp. After teaching her, she was able to comprehend the topic and was able solve the problem. I recently tutored my teenaged cousins in their Math and Statistics subjects. One of them is a Senior High student under the STEM Curriculum. I also worked as an intern at MBU Engineering services. In terms of hobbies and interest, I love my pets Cookie Dough and Nutella. I am a fan of dogs, I love music and I love to sing. I enjoy listening to good music and enjoy watching music videos during my free time. I have a talent in singing and I can play musical instruments such as the piano and the lyre. I love reading manga and books, I love watching anime such as "Detective Conan", "Naruto", "Kakegurui", etc., I love watching series and movies such as "horror" films, "The Big Bang Theory", "Girl from Nowhere", "Japanese" and "British" movies and series such as "Agatha Christie's movies" featuring " Miss Marple" and "Hercule Poirot" etc. I am a homebody but I enjoy travelling if given the opportunity and the means. My goal is to travel around the world especially in Europe, Sweden and Switzerland. I love the beach, the sea, water bodies, natural sceneries and God-given nature. This job would be a great opportunity for me to impart my knowledge and skills especially in Math to other students regardless of their socioeconomic status, gender, race, educational attainment, grades and culture. This would also be a chance for me to discover the innate potential and talent of students and help hone such ability. I also want students to realize that Math is fun and not a dreadful subject. I am looking forward to develop and harness special skills to further aid me in my professional career.
